How Pronett67 prepares a cleaning quote from your photos

In Strasbourg as everywhere, most sofa, mattress and rug cleaning requests now come in through WhatsApp or a contact form. A well-taken photo lets us reply quickly with an indicative range. A blurry, too-close or contextless photo forces us to ask more questions — slowing everyone down. This article explains, concretely, which photos to send, in which order, and what can or cannot be estimated remotely.

In short

One full-piece photo, two or three close-ups of stains or damaged areas, one photo of the care label, the dimensions, and a short note about odours and products already used. That's the useful minimum for a serious first estimate.

Why the full sofa, mattress or rug must be visible

A quote depends first on the size and configuration: number of seats, chaise or corner section for a sofa, dimensions and sides for a mattress, length and width for a rug. Take the wide shot two to three metres back so we can count the seats, spot a chaise, see whether covers are removable, and read the general condition. Without this view we would have to guess — and guessing goes wrong when the close-ups only show an armrest.

Close-ups of stains are essential

The full-view photo shows the structure; close-ups show the real work. On a sofa, frame each stain or worn area at 30–40 cm: we can see if it is superficial or set-in, if it has haloed, if the fabric is polished, if a previous product left a mark. On a mattress, a close-up of a yellow stain or halo helps us estimate its likely age. On a rug, a pile close-up is more useful than a standing-height wide shot.

Show the dimensions and number of seats

For a sofa, tell us the number of seats (2, 3, corner, chaise) and if possible the total length in metres. For a mattress, the standard format (90×190, 140×190, 160×200, 180×200). For a rug, measure length × width with a tape; a photo of the tape on the rug reassures us. A round, oval or irregular rug needs a flat overhead shot and the maximum diameter or footprint.

• Sofa: number of seats + total length + presence of a chaise or corner.

• Rug: length × width + any fringes.

Photograph the care label

The care label gives us a first clue on the material and manufacturer recommendation. It usually sits under a cushion, at the back of a backrest or sewn along a side band. Photograph it up close in daylight if possible. If it's illegible or missing, tell us: we will adapt the protocol after an on-site test. Odours and products already used: describe in text

Some information doesn't show in a photo. A urine, tobacco, dampness, pet or musty odour changes preparation. A previously applied product (cleaner, bleach, baking soda, vinegar, foam) also changes what's possible next. One or two short sentences help a lot: 'cat urine odour on the right side', 'I sprayed a stain remover two days ago', 'the sofa got wet after a water leak'. These points influence the quote as much as the size does.

What can be estimated from a photo

• Approximate size and shape of the item.
• Visible fabric type (weave, microfibre, apparent velvet, apparent leather).
• Apparent stain density and location.
• General condition and visible wear.
• Access complexity if items block the room.

What cannot be estimated remotely

• Exact fibre composition and true water sensitivity.
• Internal state of a mattress (wet foam, deep residue).
• Exact age of a set-in stain.
• Dye fastness and migration risk.
• Consequences of a previous over-wetting.

This is why an initial estimate can be confirmed or adjusted after an on-site check. It is not an exit clause: it is a caution principle. We prefer an honest range to a fixed price we'd have to revise at the door.
