How does professional mattress cleaning work?
Inspection, vacuuming, pre-treatment, adapted cleaning, drying: what a professional mattress cleaner actually does, without unrealistic promises.
Mattress cleaning in Strasbourg: sleep hygiene, dust mites, urine and sweat stains, odours and honest daily care habits from Pronett67 between two interventions.
The mattress is probably the most-used textile in the home — we spend about a third of our life on it. It concentrates sweat, dead skin cells, cosmetic residue and, in many households, allergens linked to dust mites. A mattress cover or protector does not stop this deep build-up on its own.

Not every yellow stain has the same cause: sweat, humidity, oxidation, old spills. What can realistically be cleaned, what to avoid and when a professional is the right call.
Every night a mattress absorbs a small amount of sweat and dead skin cells. Over a few years, this organic residue mixes with ambient humidity and becomes an ideal environment for dust mites. In most homes we visit in Strasbourg it is not yet visible, but you can feel it: the mattress seems heavier, gives off a slightly sharp smell on waking, or triggers subtle allergy symptoms.
A cover or fitted sheet retains part of the surface soil but lets moisture through. Old bedding, a second-hand mattress or a mattress used without a protector for more than two years is worth having professionally cleaned at least once.
Dust mites themselves are not dangerous, but their droppings concentrate powerful allergens. In adults, the symptoms often stop at a stuffy nose or itchy eyes on waking. In an asthmatic child, the impact can be much more visible.
In Strasbourg, the most common requests fall into four categories: sweat, urine (children or pets), blood and vomit. Each reacts differently.
We adapt the moisture level to the mattress type (springs, memory foam, latex). Memory foam does not tolerate the same water load as a traditional spring mattress: we limit saturation and prefer several lighter passes.
A smell that 'returns' after cleaning almost always comes from deep contamination (old urine, trapped humidity). Surface cleaning is not enough: you need in-depth treatment with extraction and sometimes an enzyme product. Fresheners and baking soda mask temporarily but do not treat the source.
